So I was reading Slashfood and how Nestle/Hershey's is releasing a dark mint chocolate KitKat bar for Christmas. And then, I saw that there are over 150 varieties of KitKat bars sold all over the world! OH MY!

I've always loved KitKat...probably my favorite candy bar along with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Butterfingers. Who knew that they had all these other crazy varieties in other countries? Then again, I had no clue that they had other kinds in the US. According to the Hershey site, they have the regular milk chocolate, and the white chocolate, both of which I'm familiar with. But they also have limited edition coffee, orange cream, milkshake and extra crispy. Who knew? I would love to try that orange cream!

The Wikipedia link lists all the crazy varieties from all over the world. The Japanese, of course, have the craziest kinds. Why do they get all the cool freaky food? I mean, really! Azuki Bean, Green Tea, Pineapple, Yubari Melon, and Apple and to name a few!

I think I'll just look forward to seeing the mint version, thank you!

This is odd, I am in the midst of a KitKat Bar, which I started to eat before I started reading your blog. It's not a candy I usually eat either.

yeah in japan i used to like the lemon ones.mmmmmmmm

and china has some weird flavors, too...

i'm fascinated by the packaging and the flavors! i would love to try the pineapple. ugh. i shouldn't be thinking about sweets right now. i have a few pounds i need to get rid of from thanksgiving =|

Mmmmmmmmm I LOVE that matcha kitkat!

Definitely make sure you click through to the wikipedia link and see all the kinds. Cheesecake, pumpkin, kir, peanut butter, all sorts of other kinds. The most disgusting to me is the: Kit Kat Exotic Tokyo — Japan limited edition — Milk chocolate with passionfruit, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant + pepper

so...... what makes that last one disgusting? i think it sounds tasty!!

I have some friends teaching in Japan and sent us some different flavored Kit-Kats (blueberry, orange, and lemon). Consensus is that sticking with the original, or a close variation of it, is wise.

We had a Japanese coworker bring many of these flavors into the office just this week! We got the Kit Kat Exotic Tokyo, too. I tried the green tea (eh), azuki (yum!) and "bitter" (dark chocolate and also yum). I wish I had known there was a pepper one; I would have tried that.

Oh yeah kit kats! i love them! I saw the insane amount of different kit kat varieties in wikipedia too and i was drooling over, especially those rare ones which you can only get in japan or something.

I actually learned about things like this while studying anthropology. A lot of companies alter the flavors of their foods to appeal to local taste buds. Coke has a different formula for Indian and other Asian countries, for example. Neat, huh?
