A little roundup of miscellaneous things.

I have a post about the recipient of the EMC Leadership Award at the Computerworld Honors-- Laura Campbell from the Library of Congress.
I have a snippet from my book about the world's first gourmand, Apicius, if you want to check it out and tell me what you think.
Since summer is nearly here, I wanted to share a tasty cocktail, created entirely by me. Even if you aren't a gin drinker (which I'm not) you should try it out--I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ginger Rogers in a Shady Grove

Build, fill glass with ice

1 1/2 oz gin
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1 tsp sugar

Fill with ginger ale or even better, ginger beer
Fresh mint, limes
Serve in a highball glass with a mint sprig for garnish.

Scaled for 1 serving(s) and 48.0 oz pitcher

Build, fill pitcher with ice

8 oz gin (1/3 750ml bottle, 1/4 1L bottle)
4 oz lime juice
1 oz sugar
Place fresh mint and cut up limes in pitcher

Fill with ginger ale or even better, ginger beer
Fresh mint, limes
Serve in a highball glass with a mint sprig for garnish.

in case you are REALLY hungry

in looking for crockpot recipes yesterday to cook up our bunny (mmm crockpot bunny was awesome) I ran across this little tidbit at cooks.com:

Yum!

CREAM OF ELEPHANT STEW

2 metric tons onions, chopped
3 cubic yards parsley, chopped
1 med. elephant, gray
6 barrels flour, sifted
1/2 pickup truck loaf salt
1 lg. rabbit

Wash elephant and pat dry. Rub with salt and let stand. Saute onions, stir in elephant, rabbit and remaining salt. Add water to top of kettle and simmer 2 weeks or until tender. Thicken with flour and remove from heat. Sprinkle in parsley and leave uncovered for 1 1/2 minutes. Serve immediately as elephant tends to get tough and rubbery when cold. Leave out rabbit if you don’t like hare in your soup.

We opted out of the elephant stew and just decided on the rabbit. Romeo, in particular, really loved the bunny. So much so that he even got into the garbage overnight to get at the bones, something that he never never never does. Thankfully he doesn't really have any teeth (maybe 8 left after we had a whole bunch of them yanked a few years back) so he probably just licked them and then went on his merry way. I wonder what he would think about elephant.

I went to the Fogg Art Museum and met

a handsome guy on the steps. We wandered around for a couple hours then we headed over to Dali and had frog legs and garlic soup. Then we went to Central Square and went to Toscanini's. Then he said he had to go to the bathroom and I weighed that heavily in my mind (because I was tired of

men being jerks) but I gave in and he stayed for three days. No, make that six years.

We did go to the Fogg today but it was nothing like back then. It was raining like mad today. The museum was really busy and people visiting today had no sense of personal space. The guards at the museum were hulking and annoying. I had red hair, not blonde. Joe had more hair back then. But this time we actually kissed when we were looking at the Bernini angels. Last time I just really really really wanted to.

Today is like a personal thanksgiving for me. Except that instead, Joe is making pheasant for dinner. YUM. I'm making a crumb apple pie. There is football involved because well, it's Sunday and the Pats are playing. And overall, I just feel so grateful for what I have now and what I will in the future.

I'll let you know how the apple crumb pie turns out. It's from Epicurious. If it's good, I'll be making it again in two weekends for a goodbye party we're having for a friend. We're going to be heading to Nashoba Valley Winery next Friday for our autumn work party, so I'll have lots of tasty apples on hand once again!
