• TMBG fans really really should check out their podcasts. Very cool. Only two so far but absolute excellence. From the podcast, I found that they're doing some fun ringtones with Wired magazine coming out in February. Can't wait to snag those!  (UPDATE: They are on their 12th podcast...(21A is actually their 12th). No clue why they aren't all archived there. I found a link to the dial-a-song podcast archive but there doesn't seem to be any there, sigh.)

• The PoetryFoundation.org has some really brilliant poems formatted to print out and hang on your fridge or wherever you may need some poetic inspiration. I like "The Secret" by Denise Levertov...
• Speaking of poems, I wonder how many people have written poems about Brad Pitt?
• When I found this site and all the cool vintage repro shoes, I thought of my friend Jess, who has just become a Voxer. She needs some neighbors so go check her out!
• Turbine is supposed to announce today that the much-anticipated Shadows of Angmar Lord of the Rings MMORPG is to go live on April 24. They're still in beta now...here's the link if you want to be lucky enough to get an invite.
  
• If you do get an invite or you end up playing when it goes live, you might want some help coming up with your name. • Some of you may remember Stephen Colbert's Green Screen Counter Challenge to the Decemberists...well Colbert's video us funny. But these great YouTube user responses are hilarious. Colbert just plain rocks.
  
• And as a funny side note, I play Everquest II here and there and in one of the zones, Butcherblock Mountains, there is an NPC that wanders along a path named Trapper Coalbear. He gives you a quest to kill the "number one threat" in Butcherblock--bears. Cracks me up.

09 Half The Perfect World

1. Boston is gearing up for a hot humid streak. Hot is fine. Humid...blech. Joe has two baseball games this weekend which sort of worry me. Air quality will be the suck and being so physical in that kind of weather isn't really the smartest thing. I was just reading about how one of my friend's boyfriend just suffered heatstroke in Texas...he was on a run and his AF trainers kept pushing him despite complaining of numbness and tunnel vision. Very freaky. He's okay, thankfully. Joe says, "That's not going to happen to me. Fear not." Easy for him to say. I'm going to make him take a case of Gatorade with him.
   
2. I tried out Second Life for a bit last night. I'm interested in the convergence of advertising into the video game world and I'm also really intrigued by the fact that you can actually make money playing. However upon spending a bit of time in the world I was thinking what an awful lot of work it is. I work all day--do I want to do that when I'm relaxing?
3. My elderly landlord (92) came home yesterday after a 2 month stay in rehab for a slow heartbeat (22 beats a min, wow!). I hope he sticks around for awhile. We were sure he'd never be able to come home again. I'm not sure how long his wife (84) will be able to care for him at home. We'll see. Their kids are close though and she is in good health, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.
   
4. I've been itching to write again...I need to find a better way to develop a full-fledged writing practice. I hate that I'm so damned lazy. When I go to sleep at night I drift off to sleep imagining how different scenes from my fantasy novel will progress. I've developed countless scenes in my head that still need to be put to paper. Every year NANOWRIMO does a lot for my motivation but I don't want to wait that long to pick it up again. I think I need to start bringing my laptop home and spend time on the porch writing. I get too distracted if I sit at my computer at home to write.
   
5. I discovered that YouTube can feed my BB7 Allstars obsession. I wish that the US show would let us see the Diary Room like they do in the UK but well, we'll all live. Here's a clip of Kaysar telling Danielle about his most embarassing concert ever--Yanni. That's embarassing.

   I would have to say mine would be Manilow...but damn it was fun! All these old ladies there gushing over him as he sang all the old hits--and his passion--the Broadway tunes. The best part is that they all really, honestly, believe that he's straight.
